Turnip Project

I have just begun some work with Paula Pongrac a plant ecologist at the James Hutton Institute who studies plant root systems and the uptake of minerals like zinc and manganese. Paula and her colleagues aim to help reduce the amount of fertilizers added to crops by showing that agricultural plants can be grown in a sustainable way naturally providing minerals both to the soil and to the people who eat them.

I am making plant papers from plants grown at the Living Field and embedding the brassica plants in the paper so that I can use the papers for printing. Paula will also help me make thin sections of the root and take microscopic pictures to develop etchings.

The turnips have just been harvested from the Living Field in time for Halloween.
